Dan Fogelberg Same Old Lang Syne
It's a terribly sad state of the popular consciousness that on the day after Dan Fogelberg dies, a huge number of people go online and make the misstep of searching for "Dan Fogerty," thus making it one of the top ten searches on the google-web. But let's just stop doing that, okay? You and you and you. And me. And anybody else who might be tempted.
Dan Fogelberg (August 13, 1951 – December 16, 2007) was one of the most successful singer-songwriters of the 1970s and 1980s, a time when he scored an impressive string of bestselling albums and chart-topping hits. His career encompasses more than that, though: Over 30 years, the angelic-voiced singer and skilled, nimble guitarist created music from the heart that covers far more ground than the pop hits for which he is known. I'm guessing you'll be hearing this song all day (if you still happen to listen to the radio): Dan Fogelberg – Same Old Lang Syne

Complete Led Zeppelin for Ninety-Nine Bucks (and Ninety-Nine Cents, of course)
Never mind your musical peccadillos, you have to at least consider the complete Led Zeppelin collection for a steely-eyed penny-less-than-a-hundred.
Don't you?
Amazon MP3 Downloads Should Give iTunes a Run for Their Money (Finally)
Now here's a company that could actually give Apple and the iTunes store a run for it's money. Amazon.com is now offering mp3 downloads, and they're high-quality, no DRM versions of the tunes, often at lower prices than you can buy them at the iTunes store. The top 100 songs are always 89 cents.

Go check it out: Amazon.com mp3 Store.
I should probably note that I'm a big fan of the iTunes store, and love how it works, and I'm such an Apple booster that I'm invested in the company and won't buy a computer without that fruit on it and a bite taken out. But I will buy songs from Amazon.com if they are cheaper and better quality, and I will bet you that the songs (and the software Amazon.com supplies to get your mp3 downloads on) will run slickly on my mac and on your mac and on your pc and on your iPod and any other thingamabob you might play music on.
If I purchase and play and find any different, I'll let you know. Because I'm that sort of guy. Letting you know.
Hm. What should I try first?

Laura Veirs | Music for You to Love
I'm in love with Laura Veirs's music.Indeed I am. Maybe you will be too.
Lovely, lyrical, essential music. I can't stand just now finding it. Of course now I get to enjoy it. Right now. Am enjoying it. You do too, okay?
Blessings.
Luciano Pavarotti | 1935-2007
Am I afraid of high notes? Of course I am afraid. What sane man is not? —Luciano Pavarotti
I would be curious to hear how many people have recently named a pet either Luciano or Pavarotti. Or both.
Furthermore, is this an appropriate tribute? Why or why not?
Blessings.
[Luciano Pavarotti | 1935-2007 ]This Is Not a Love Song
For some reason, very often when I start to write something I instead get the PIL lyrics "This is not a love song" in my head, and I very nearly write them out... and, in fact, sometimes I do.
I really dig the Nouvelle Vague version of This is Not a Love Song, as well. So you should give that a listen. Because you will like it. Then tell me if you don't suddenly write that line every time you try to write something else. Because there are times I think I'm goin' nuts. I mean honestly. What's up with that lyric?
Blessings.
Contrabassoon
I do love facebook some days.
Because you're minding your own business, doing whatever it is you do in the world, and then suddenly you discover someone you sort of knew a little bit actually owns and plays the contrabassoon. And that? Is awesome.
Suddenly makes my ukulele seem, um, sort of quaint.

Interview Mariah Carey Nude (for Fun and No Profit)
UPDATE: This page here is now the most visited of all my pages. But y'all are just stopping by for a moment and then blasting off again. Fine enough. There are no nude pictures here. Sorry. I really didn't mean to mislead you. Honestly.
You know, for some reason, a lot of people end up on my site looking for nude pictures of Mariah Carey.
Oh, heck, I do know why that is. Something I posted a long time ago about Mariah bathing with her dog. Etc. Google is an interesting and fascinating subject... and it decides who shall get thee highest linkage for said nekkid keywords. But as I was saying...
So I get my copy of Interview magazine today, and there she is, barely covered, and I'm wondering if this is going to increase my site traffic. Will I have to pay more for hosting? Can I sue Interview magazine? Because, you know, people who are looking for nude pictures of Mariah Carey? They generally aren't looking to buy my book. Alas. Maybe I should publish a book on how to get lots of traffic to your blog without actually having it influence your book sales. Because that would be oh so useful.

My Current Favorite Song Lyrics Round the Barn
First verse:The old man was chasing his son 'round the barn,
and while he was chasing his son 'round the barn,
he was chasing his son round the barn.
Second verse:
The old man was chasing his son 'round the barn,
and while he was chasing his son 'round the barn,
he was chasing his son round the barn.
Third verse:
The old man was chasing his son 'round the barn,
and while he was chasing his son 'round the barn,
he was chasing his son round the barn.
No joke. Here: The Old Man Was Chasing HIs Son 'Round the Barn. There's something oddly... odd about it, that makes me want to sing it aloud. It's so matter-of-fact, the way it's just sort of sung, as if, well, something has changed in each verse, that will make you understand why exactly the exact same lyrics are sung three times 'round the barn. Fascinating. To me. I don't expect you to feel the same. But if you do? Well. Bonus.

Complete My “Album”
You know, I'm sort of curious about something.
How many of y'all have chosen to "complete my album" in the iTunes Music store? (You know, I'm just annoying enough to almost always call it an "ablum," because I think that is funny for reasons I don't even remember anymore.)
I haven't done it, and I have a feeling it's because I sort of feel like the "album," per se, is kind of dead, and I wish artists would just finish a song and release it and I could buy it and listen. I'd be willing to pay a buck fifty or so for each song released that way. Or maybe they could release them with a b-side. I could go up to a buck ninety-nine that way. (Though I know I'm still being incredibly stupid by using the words "b-side" to describe a digital download.)
But an album? Can't an album be whatever you want it to be now? Why are we still loading about ten songs into what's called an "album" and then serving it like it makes sense to do it that way. Most of the time the songs have little or nothing to do with each other... (okay, there are a few exceptions ) but they are certainly far from the rule) and when they do have something to do with each other, I'm not likely to buy just a song here or there.
How would you like your music served? Do you even listen to music? Am I kidding myself? Do my readers only listen to Britney Spears? Who are you?
Say something.
And bless you.
