Some of the best animal pictures are coming from the Adoptable Pets photo pool recently. Very nicely done. And there's simply no question that some of the best pets end up in the shelters through no fault of their own. And if you are looking for a pet, you need to get your fanny perpendicular in there and take a look around.

Gotcha. And good night right back atcha.

Baggins | from the Adoptable Pets photo pool

Baggins by Gini~
Baggins Uploaded to flickr by Gini~, who said this:
Baggins is available for adoption in Northern Virginia, USA, with his life long Siamese cat buddy Mickey through HART

Mickey and Baggins came to HART because their human was deployed to Iraq and something happened that made it where the person could no longer keep them. I don't know the entire story.

He loves the catnip toys at adoption events!

Get it! Get the tag! Chew it! Got to get it! It will become ours! It is ours! Love! Get! Got! Give!

Cute young border-collie mix. Female. Has had her shots and is spayed. Seems to know "sit" possibly trained previously. Energetic, loves people and baths. Possible allergies, but easily treated. Very tolerant.

Loves people and baths? There must be some mistake here. What on earth? Perhaps some genetic weakness.

Or, you know, just one of those dogs... go get 'er.

SHE NEVER STOPS | from the Adoptable Pets photo pool

SHE NEVER STOPS by Doggies Are From Heaven
SHE NEVER STOPS Uploaded to flickr by Doggies Are From Heaven, who said this:
This little girl has more energy then the other three puppies combined. Downey literally never stops moving. Even after running and playing for over an hour, she still will not sit still to be petted and never stops moving long enough to do her "business". She is also very dominant and started fights with both Bella and Dozer today. I worry about her future. She sure is pretty but will anyone put up with all her issues? I sure hope so.

Would you put up with her "issues"? Would you try? Would I? I bet I would. I do like a challenge.

Falling in Love | from the Adoptable Pets photo pool

SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE by Doggies Are From Heaven
SOMETIMES YOU CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE Uploaded to flickr by Doggies Are From Heaven, who said this:
Things are going well at foster puppy central. Dozer and Downey have been free of kennel cough symptoms for well over a week now. They will go in for spay/neuter surgery towards the end of the week and will be ready for adoption. Bella has been introduced to them and they are all playing well and wearing each other out.

Dozer continues to be a love bug and unfortunately I can't help but adore him. I guess that means more tears when he leaves. My sadness is a small price to pay though, to save these puppies lives!

How could you not fall in love? Such are the dangers of fostering. And such are the dangers of looking at pictures of these animals. So there they are again, staring you in the face.

Mr. Lap-Cat (for adoption in NJ) Uploaded to flickr by Val Ann, who said this:
There may be thirty black and white cats in the shelter. But Studley is the most cuddly -- and a favorite of the staff. His life's mission is to sit in a warm lap and purr. Studley is FIV+, so he should live indoors.

For details, contact:

Remember to have your pets spayed or neutered!

This cat is looking at you as if to say "I dare you to adopt me... I will sit on your lap so long you will atrophy and never ever be able to get up."

And me? I dare you too.

Adopt a Shelter Dog

Cute puppy; didn't get his name Uploaded to flickr by WashHumane.

Blogged from the Adoptable Pets photo pool by Terry Bain.

So. right now is Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog month. And to honor the shelters in question, I'd really love to feature one or two shelters a day all month long. And that seems like a lot of work, but I'm willing to give it a go. But what I'd really like to do is feature those shelters, either here or at Itchmo.com, along with some timely information about the shelters in question. So. If you work at a shelter and would like to see your it featured, please write to me with some information about your shelter. What are your current needs? What does your pet population look like? I know it's adopt a shelter dog month, but do you have more cats in need than dogs? More rabbits? More iquanas? Tell me something interesting about you. Is there a pet picture you'd like to see on the site? Attach it to your email. And send it all here: bainbooks@gmail.com. I can't promise everyone who sends me an email will get featured, but I'll do what I can.

Blessings.
