Poor little Missy was left at the shelter for too long…
I had planned on taking her home to foster as soon as her time was up, but at the last minute her “real” owner phoned the shelter. The woman said that she had been looking all over for Missy, and that she would come to reclaim her the next day. Over the next several days the woman called each day, each time with a different excuse as to why she couldn’t pick Missy up. Finally the woman stopped calling. But in the meanwhile, little Missy was traumatized. She HATED the shelter and became very stressed.

Eventually another family adopted Missy, but after only 2 days, they returned her to the shelter because she was sick. Apparently Missy was vomiting everything they fed her, even water. The shelter took Missy to the vet where they decided that she was only suffering from stress induced vomiting and upset stomach. She was prescribed antibiotics and something to calm her stomach. Since the shelter is so busy and unable to give any animal special treatment, I brought Missy home with me.

The very first night she was here, Missy did not vomit, and in fact, I’ve never seen her vomit. I don’t know if that’s due to the medications or just because she feels safe and calm in my home. She was very lethargic though, and had lost a lot of weight due to her illness. The good news is that each day Missy has gotten a little bit better, and as of today, she’s eating fine, playing with Pokey, Darla and Boo, and chasing cats, ducks and goats!

I hate to see a sweet dog like this traumatized, but it looks as if it will have a happy ending... at least it's having a happy middle. Blessings to everyone who helps put animals in loving homes.

Including you.
