What Is Staying at Home Worth?

My question, perhaps entirely beside the point (or entirely missing the point... please educate me if I am), follows the quote...

If the typical stay-at-home mother in the United States were paid for her work as a housekeeper, cook and psychologist among other roles, she would earn $138,095 a year, according to research released on Wednesday. This reflected a 3 percent raise from last year's $134,121, according to Salary.com Inc, Waltham, Massachusetts-based compensation experts.

...so, you've waited this long... for the following... what about the stay at home father? Why is this always about the stay at home mother? Is it exactly the same for the stay at home father, or are we to assume that the father fills different roles as a home-maker? Why do we continue to oversimplify every damn thing?

You know what? I simply don't know what this information means... to place a dollar value on raising children. It seems utterly and insipidly beside the point. Not everything has value in terms of money.

Here's what I want the damn thing to say: A mother or father at home, raising children = priceless.

Okay, maybe not. I don't want anybody to think I'm talking about American Express. Because I'm absolutely not.

Blessings
