FDA Suspects Tainted Chicken, Human Food Finally Being Tested for Melamine

FDA will begin testing for melamine in the human food supply after investigating chicken farms and the expansion of tainted pork. This is more than a month after the first pet food recall was announced.
In addition, the FDA on Tuesday announced plans to expand testing of the animal food supply after hogs on farms in three states were quarantined after testing positive for the substance at the center of the recall, the toxic agent melamine.
A poultry farm in Missouri is also being investigated, federal officials said.
Pig Contamination Expands to NY, Utah, NC, SC, and Possibly Ohio

Reuters is reporting that pigs in several states may have been fed tainted pet food.
“I don’t have the numbers on that right now but it potentially affects thousands of hogs,” Stephen Sundlof, director of the FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine, told reporters. “Some of the hog operations were fairly sizable.”
Livestock feed that may have been contaminated with ingredients imported from China was sent to hog farms in North and South Carolina, California, New York, Utah and “possibly” Ohio, he said.
SmartPak Dog Food Recalled
April 24th, 2007
SmartPak recalled LiveSmart Weight Management Chicken and Brown Rice Dog Food on April 20.
Their recall is attributed to rice protein from Wilbur-Ellis, not the unnamed second importer.

Don't look at the kitten or you will be instantly hypnotized. But there you are. There are so many animals in shelters... it's sometimes difficult to think about. But. One. Must. Think. And not look, of course. Because looking at this kitten (as with most kittens) will turn off your brain and transform you into a helpless puddle of mush.
