Happy Birthday to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the first book of which, The Fellowship of the Ring, was published on this day in 1954. And now? I'm reading it to Number One, and he's very much enthralled... so much so that he rarely (if ever) interrupts to ask, “what does that mean?” If he has questions, they do not seem to matter so much as the continuation of the story (which I was never able to finish on my own, but which I intend to do now... finally... after some twenty years of first beginning the reading of it).
