BC Woman Denied Hospital Bed for Stillbirth
I'd wager that hospitals in any country are ill-equipped to handle women carrying babies that have died. They practically need an entirely different intake process.
CBC British Columbia - Denied hospital bed for stillbirth, B.C. woman says: Dr. Joe Kotlarz, the medical director of East Kootenay Health Service Area, said it is standard practice to send women away from hospital while they wait for a stillbirth because the process is often slow.I don't deny that it might indeed be helpful for some women to be at home for stillbirth labor, but to not actually give them a choice is barbaric. I obviously don't know all the details to the story, and maybe I'm glad I don't, because I'd likely be even angrier... and anger doesn't actually serve me well. We need to understand that when the child is stillborn, the focus does indeed need to shift, but not toward ignoring the situation. Likely, the focus will or should be on the mental and physical health of the parents.
