Raymond Carver~Born in Clatskanie, Oregon: Carver was born on May 25, 1938 in what was then known as the Clatskanie Hospital, located upstairs in the Medical Building on Nehalem Street in downtown Clatskanie. That two-story brick and plaster building, next door to Western Bank, now houses the Piercing Arrow private school and the Stepping Stones store and vocational training center. The upstairs rooms, which were once Dr. Wooden's offices and surgical and obstetrical facilities, are now apartments.I have very little else to say about this, except that I remain angry that he died before I knew him.
