War Dogs: A History of Loyalty and Heroism
by Michael G. Lemish
Dogs, Handlers Forge Bonds On Front Line: “At first they were like, 'Oh, the Air Force. What's the Air Force doing here?' And then you'd show up and it's like, 'Oh, you got a dog, too.' And I'm like, 'Absolutely.' ”...but I have a feeling one of the reasons “They loved it” is that human beings are simply more optimistic and better able to manage stress when there's a dog around... be it a watch dog, a lap dog, or a bomb-sniffing dog. “Every time they went out, they were like, 'Bring the dogs. Bring the dogs.' They loved it. Just to have us there to basically watch their back.”
