War Dogs: A History of Loyalty and Heroism
by Michael G. Lemish

I know these dogs have a job to do out there...
Dogs, Handlers Forge Bonds On Front Line: “At first they were like, 'Oh, the Air Force. What's the Air Force doing here?' And then you'd show up and it's like, 'Oh, you got a dog, too.' And I'm like, 'Absolutely.' ”
After one mission, Spivey and Rex proved their worth.
“Every time they went out, they were like, 'Bring the dogs. Bring the dogs.' They loved it. Just to have us there to basically watch their back.”
...but I have a feeling one of the reasons “They loved it” is that human beings are simply more optimistic and better able to manage stress when there's a dog around... be it a watch dog, a lap dog, or a bomb-sniffing dog. Dogs do us good.
