The Perfect Storm: A True Story of Men Against the Sea
by Sebastian Junger

I was going to give the eastern bloc states a ribbing this morning about living in a place where they even have such a thing as a Nor'easter...
Howstuffworks “What is a Nor'easter?”: Nor'easters can occur in the eastern United States any time between October and April, when moisture and cold air are plentiful. They are known for dumping heavy amounts of rain and snow, producing hurricane-force winds, and creating high surfs that cause severe beach erosion and coastal flooding. A Nor'easter is named for the winds that blow in from the northeast and drive the storm up the east coast along the Gulf Stream, a band of warm water that lies off the Atlantic coast.
...but then I got up and looked outside and it had just begun to snow, and now it's 10:30 and it's still snowing (and snowing pretty darn good) and it looks as if I may have to get to take the kids sledding today because it will likely be the last time I have to do it opportunity for us to enjoy the snow before Spring arrives (and it did seem to be arriving with a passion lately... the bulbs are coming up for pity's sake). So. No more ribbing the eastern bloc states. (One more thing... if you happen to talk to folks out there on the east coast of things, they are already darn tired of you saying things like “how's the weather out there” or “getting any snow?”... so knock it off. They're liable to get snippy.) aXis: Howstuffworks “What is a Nor'easter?”/ / noreaster surf shop/ noreaster magazine/ weather patterns webquest/ technorati: noreaster/ flickr: noreaster
