...here's proof that
big chain theater owners are idiots: via Boing Boing: Big theater chains refuse to show Soderbergh's “Bubble”.That's right. Don't release it on DVD and pay-per-view the same day because access to it will keep people from seeing and spending their four hours' wages on two hours of entertainment. Nevermind that a quick peek at the latest torrent files tells me, if I were so inclined, I could download and watch Glory Road or Hoodwinked or King King right now, months before they're released on either pay per view or cable or iTunes or whatever. I'm not going to, because generally the larger the budget, the closer to Hollywood, the bigger the stars, the more the movie utterly sucks. What would I shell out a tenspot to see in a theater (whether it was available on iTunes or not [and I know I'm getting ahead of myself by saying that it should be available on iTunes])? I would shell out a tenspot to see a Soderbergh movie because they're usually worth it. (Though I still likely wouldn't buy the giant tub of refillable popcorn because no matter how many times I refill it, I don't get my six dollars worth... ever...) /endrant
