Los Angeles Times to Launch 'West' Magazine Feb. 5: LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Los Angeles Times on Feb. 5 will launch West, a new Sunday magazine offering readers an eclectic, insightful and entertaining view of the many faces of California.... The magazine will use voice-driven narratives, profiles, investigative reporting, bold photography and short fiction to peel away the state's complexity.See there? That was a direct quote from a press release. And they have a Literary Editor already named, folks.
Acclaimed author Amy Tan has joined West magazine as literary editor. She will be responsible for helping to solicit and select pieces for “California Story,” an original work of short fiction set in the Golden State.Well. I'm sort of hoping the short fiction won't be dull and innocuous. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The release didn't say whether the fiction would appear weekly or on some other chart (they could really cut the legs out from under this by making it quarterly or some darn thing). I'll cross my toes too.
