Hurricane Katrina at Wikipedia

Heard the Word of Blog?
As usual, turn to Wikipedia for the straight, sober, very current dope.
Hurricane Katrina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: At first, many thought that the storm would not be as catastrophic as forecasters predicted for most of New Orleans, because the storm made a right turn at the last minute, and the eye missed New Orleans by 10-15 miles. Immediately after the worst winds passed, the storm surge, which scientists had worried might top levees, slowed and stabilized. Early on August 30, however, a levee gave way, and 80% of New Orleans is now said to be under water, which in some places is 25 feet deep.
And when you're done with that, visit Wikinews for even more updates and in-depth dope.
Wikinews: Ivor van Heerden, Deputy Director of the Louisiana State University Hurricane Center and director of the Center for the Study of Public Health Impacts of Hurricanes, is warning that floodwaters resulting from Hurricane Katrina could carry toxic waste from the “Industrial Canal” area in New Orleans - the site of many chemical plants. Van Heerden has, for four years, studied computer models about the impact of a powerful hurricane.
