Approximately 838 Pit Bulls a Week Die in LA Area Shelters
What does this say to me? It says to me that irresponsible pet owners are more likely to adopt--and then abandon--a pit bull than any other breed of dog. I'll say it again. It's not the dog that's the problem. It's the people. MuttShack Animal Rescue Uses Pit Bull Chain Letter to Save Lives - MuttShack Animal Rescue and Animal Foster : "According to the Villalobos Pit Bull Rescue, "the pit bull population in the combined twelve shelters (six city shelters and six county shelters in Los Angeles) has now risen to 40% of all the dogs in shelters. 'Approximately 10 pit bulls are brought in each day to each shelter. That's 120 pit bulls a day. Most are strays, tossed out like dirty laundry. At the end of a week the total comes to 840 pit bulls. Then, according to Animal Control records, only about 2 pit bulls a week get adopted. That means 838 pit bulls a week, die in local shelters.' [vrcpitbull.com]"What will we do about it? Any ideas? Any ideas besides making pit bulls illegal? Because that won't work, and it's rediculously oversimplified rhetorical nonsense. Help me out, people. I find this disturbing.
