What is PostSecret Good For?
I visit PostSecret once a week. Or rather, I've subscribed to the PostSecret feed. And I've often wondered why I look... why do I care? What's the purpose of this blog/site? I've found it in the PostSecret blog, in response to the question "what's your favorite secret":
Favorite PostSecret: After I had created my postcard I stepped back to admire my handiwork. Instead of feeling relieved that I had finally got my secret out, I felt terrible instead. It was right then that I decided that I didn't want to be the person with that secret any longer. I ripped up my postcard and I decided to start making some changes in my life..."And there it is. PostSecret could change a life. It could change yours. It could change mine. Is there something you don't like about yourself that you'd like to change? Do you have a secret that you don't want to be about you anymore? I'll bet if you change something small today, something that seems insignificant, and then do the same thing tomorrow, or next week... something like deciding to comb your hair a different way, to vacuum three times a week instead of one... and you make a habit of changing insignificant things about who you are, eventually you'll wonder why you were ever keeping that secret. That secret isn't about you. It was about somebody else. And it's no use keeping anymore. You won't tell anybody. You won't share. You'll just let it go. Let it go starting right now.
