Deceased Stowaway's Leg Falls From Sky in Long Island, NY
If you read some of the morning news stories, it's difficult to tell that the man whose leg fell from a jet is dead (he's reduced to nothing but a leg, it seems). Most seem to be cribbing, for now, from the Newsday story:
Newsday.com: Body parts fall from plane to LI backyard: "When she returned home from work at about 10:40 a.m., she glanced into her backyard and saw a severed human leg, naked but for the white Adidas sneaker on its foot. The remarkable item (to me) is the unusual care that's taken to report that the man's shoe was made by Adidas (a detail that seems to carry into the cribbed news). Though I'm sure the makers of Adidas are happy that anyone would care to wear their shoes, they might have just as soon this detail be left out of the deceased's story.
Port Authority and Nassau County police said the leg appears to have belonged to a stowaway who climbed into the wheel well of South African Airlines Flight 203, which originated in Johannesburg, South Africa, but stopped in Dakar, Senegal, before heading for Kennedy Airport at about 11:30 p.m. Monday. The plane landed at Kennedy at 7:30 a.m., said Port Authority spokesman Tony Ciavolella."
