What's Happening in the Jim West Case, You Say?

As usual, you can refer directly to the Spokesman-Review / Jim West page for the latest. But here's some spin on the latest (I'm teaching myself spin because I never learned to speak Spanish). The FBI is looking in to the allegations of Jim West's abuse of office (the Mayor's office, that is). And good for them. Too bad they had to read about it in the newspaper before they moved a muscle. Two former Spokane mayors are urging Mr. West to resign.
"If Jim West truly loves this city, as he has stated many times, he will resign immediately and seek help," Barnard, who was mayor in the early 1990s, said in a prepared statement. "His credibility and trust are gone and can never be regained. Every day he remains in office hurts our city and hurts him."
I don't know exactly who is going to have to tell Mr. West that he needs to resign before he actually does it. Not me, apparently. I'm tempted to make a joke here, but I'm still trying to keep a level head about the situation and not make too much light of it. Should he resign? Of course he should, former mayor's saying so or not. Love or not. Me or not. Deputy mayor Jack Lynch has the reigns of the city while West takes a "leave of absence."
The four-year Spokane public servant, and Spokane Mayor Jim West's right-hand man, is leading the city while West takes a leave of absence for a few weeks amid accusations he molested boys and abused his power.
Would somebody please write Amy Cannata and tell her not to use terminology such as "right hand man" in a case like this one? It's too damn difficult to keep those images out of my head. And it's unfair to Lynch, who's just trying to do his job. That's all I have to say about all of that. I guess it's not very spinny. I'm not much of a spinner. But this story still has legs. And I'd like to make sure, as a blogger and a member of this community, that if folks are dropping by my site to see if I have anything to say about the matter that, in fact, I do, and my take on it is not always level with what is being reported in the Dogsville Muckraker (whatever the hell that is).
