FDA Wants Sperm Banks to Bar Donors Who've Had Gay Sex
I'm trying to figure out how much the FDA actually knows about HIV. If they have their way, sperm banks will bar anyone who's had gay sex from donating (CNN). Is it just me, or has the FDA become nothing but a political tool, out to protect nobody but those with behinds in chairs of the offices of the FDA? I wonder, how does the FDA intend to test for gay sex? They can't. All they can do is ask. And despite my faith in humankind, I have a feeling some folks might lie. Sperm banks can test, however, for HIV, both before and after, and doing so would be far safer for all moms and children and families. So the FDA says ban those who've had gay sex. Can I point out that if asked, until yesterday the mayor of our fair city would have been a perfectly acceptable candidate (exepting for the fact that he is too darn old), and that as of yesterday he would no longer be acceptable? What is the difference between the two days? Not the sex, nor the danger of transmittable disease, but the information... it wasn't until yesterday that most people knew he wouldn't be allowed... Not a good plan. Not safe. Not fair. Not a good idea. (It's not every day that I get to include all the following cool tags in my blog, but here goes... ).
