I'm glad Almond has returned to what appears to be his true love. With the possible exception of masters such as Richard Ford, nobody today is writing better short fiction.
But it wasn't this bit of hyperbole that caught my eye. Rather, this one:
This is from one of Steve Almond's stories with an unprintable title...
My guess is that it might be the story titled "The Idea of Michael Jackson's Dick," but I'm not really sure, since I haven't read the book. No matter.
What does matter is that I've examined my response to this review and noticed that I'm now more likely to go add it to my wish list not becuase the reviewer printed the title, but rather because they made mention of the fact that the story title was "unprintable."
I frankly didn't know there was such a thing (okay, I did know that, but it annoys me nontheless). I actually find the title "The Idea of Michael Jackson's Dick" somewhat pedestrian... trying just a little too hard to be provocative without actually being that provocative.
I wonder how many people, reading the title here in my blog, would also go add the book to their wish list. Would you? If not, maybe you'll leave a comment here. If so, you can leave a comment too, but here's the book's Amazon link: The Evil B.B. Chow and Other Stories.
Blessings.
