Amazon.com Acquires BookSurge
In their April newsletter to authors, Booksurge has announced that they've been purchased by Amazon.com. Maybe everybody already knew this. I didn't know this. What does this mean? If I were to break it down as far as humanly possible, it means that Amazon.com is becoming a book publisher. Which is not particularly surprising news. Barnes & Noble has had its own imprint for a very long time. What's a bit different about Booksurge is that it breaks down the barriers to publishing a book. So I guess we can look forward to Amazon.com becoming a self-publishing giant. Again, no real surprise. Amazon.com is in the business of being in business, it seems, of putting different technologies next to one another and seeing how they comingle. Fine enough. Now go comingle.
