Useless Bay

Useless Bay
by Terry Bain.
This is the view (albeit panoramic here) from the porch where we stayed on Whidbey Island. The bay out there is called "Useless Bay," and this name conjures up all sorts of pre-conceived notions about the bay's utility.

Once you look out at the sunset (or sunrise, for that matter), and maybe you see a pair of bald eagles out there hunting so close that they seem within friendly distance, you can't think of the bay as useless anymore.

One thing we value now that we didn't so much in the past? Just this.
