Gloria Estefan and her Bulldog Noelle
You know what? I think every celebrity has a right to write their own book. Go ahead. And publishers can publish them, of course. What I hope is that publishers will stop giving them any sort of advance on royalties. What is the purpose of this, other than bankrupting the publishers, who will go out of their way to accept a book that may or may not sell. Even if Gloria writes a housebreaking work of staggering genius, it isn't likely to earn back even close to what they pay her. And it means less money for folks who who are sraping away at the bottom, trying to make a decent living. I haven't seen how much they are paying in advance (so I might be jumping the gun, but that's what blogging is all about, no?), but I bet it's more than a haypenny. Maybe, if she's smart, and if we're lucky (or both), she'll donate a portion of the proceeds to the Humane Society of the United States, or some such animal protection agency. Gloria? What think you? Please write, but give back to the pound, okay? From: [msn.com].
